The Beginning of Vonamê
An Imperfect Search
It began on a Tuesday morning.
Founder, Marie Gervais stood before her wardrobe at 6:47am, facing a trifecta of modern femininity:
- A corporate interview requiring authority
- A critical presentation demanding professionalism
- Evening commitments calling for effortless elegance
Three events. Zero bags capable of the metamorphosis required. "Why must we choose between dignity and practicality?" The epiphany struck as she folded a department store paper bag – its crisp edges holding shape while adapting to the set of spare shoes she wished would fit in the perfect tote bag. A blueprint for what would become Vonamê's first handbag.
The Name
VONAMÊ [vo-na-MEH]
n. The intersection where identity meets intention
Etymology:
- Você (Portuguese "you" – the sovereign)
- Name (English – the legacy)
A linguistic wink to those who understand: True luxury introduces you, not its label.
The First Prototype
Techpack
Before scissors met paper, before sewing machines touched prototype, there was the tech pack – the sacred manuscript where Vonamê's DNA was first encoded.
The Foundational Document

Precisely measured specifications with specific material callouts (from thread to zipper teeth).
Paper sample
- 1 x large premium white paper
- Fine black thread for stitching
- 1 zipper

Each sample was first perfected in paper – contributing to the reduction of material waste by 72% compared to traditional prototyping (UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures Study, 2019).
"Paper doesn't lie. If a fold works for a sample, it'll likely work in leather." – Our founder's design mantra
From these deliberate paper folds emerged the Vonamê Signature Tote—a testament to how quiet intention becomes enduring design. Now carried by those who value substance over spectacle, and soon, gracing your arm.
